Pocket globe Delamarche restoration, 25 rue Serpente, 1865

This pocket globe restoration consisted in the cleaning, the consolidation of the inner structure of the globe, then the  filling of gaps and the reinforcement of the tears of the gores.

The pocket globes are a rarity, a true treasure for collector and for globe’s lovers. (here is a very interesting article on Drouot web site talking about it  !)

This one is made by Delamarche, which is one of the greatest french globemaker ever.

Unfortunately, it has been broken in almost two part, due to a chock.

I had to reinforce its inner structure and reshape it properly.

All the materials I use in restoration are reversible, safe and have a great stability through time. They don’t become acidic, or change colour.

This is part of the restoration studies, this is why it is so important to have a proper degree in this speciality before touching any piece of art : it is not just about « being capable of putting back the piece sin a good shape », it is to insure their good conservation through time, too !
